Hearts

Over a span of thirty years, Max created an extraordinary archive of more than 300 mixed-media hearts. Each piece began with a hand-cut wooden base, serving as a canvas for a rich tactile language of salvaged materials. Max expertly integrated welded metal, fabric, and mechanical components from antique pianos, typewriters, and sewing machines to create unique three-dimensional reliefs. Ranging from 8" square to 2' x 2', these works represent the full breadth of his aesthetic—balancing sophisticated industrial geometry with a folksy, often playful wit.
