Threshold Photographs

Max liked to extend the edges of existing photographs to capture what might lie beyond the borders. The photos he used are a mix of old family images (some of which bear the names of the subjects, written in by my grandmother), some found in thrift shops, and others taken by Max himself. He extended them using pen and ink and watercolor.
